The Staff of Ice, a unique Wonder Weapon in Call of Duty Zombies, starts weak but transforms into a high-round powerhouse. This guide details its upgrade process in Black Ops 6 Zombies.

Upgrade Prerequisites:

Before upgrading, you need the Staff of Ice itself. Obtain it from the Mystery Box or by collecting its three components. Early access to the Dark Aether Nexus (via the Door to Nowhere) is crucial.

Upgrade Steps:

Step 1: Freezing Dark Aether Crystals

Freeze three Dark Aether Crystals rapidly using the Staff of Ice. These crystals reside in underground lanterns (black frame, purple glow). Perks like Stamin-Up and PHD Flopper (with Tribologist) significantly aid this step. Optimize your route; the fastest typically involves the tomb area, the Shrine of the Hierophants, and the Subterranean Temple entrance lantern. After successfully freezing three crystals, Archibald will speak, signaling progression to the Dark Aether Nexus.

Step 2: Targeting Floating Runes

Within the Dark Aether Nexus, locate three floating rocks with glowing purple Runes. Each Rune displays a unique symbol. Note these symbols. Use the Staff of Ice to shoot each Rune; a hitmarker confirms success. Shooting the Runes will lower the rocks, making the symbols easier to identify. A scoped weapon can improve accuracy. The order of shooting the rocks is inconsequential.

Step 3: Solving the Rune Puzzle

Return to the main map. A stone wall will replace a portal. Locate the corresponding area and find a wall with Runic symbols. Shoot the three symbols matching those noted in the Dark Aether Nexus with the Staff of Ice. The portal will open (regardless of accuracy), but only correct symbol selection will place you correctly within the Nexus. Incorrect selections will result in a mid-air drop. If unsuccessful, wait a round before retrying.

Step 4: Escorting the Soul Chest Orb

Interact with the purple Orb that appears after successfully completing the rune puzzle. The Orb will move; kill zombies near it to fuel its movement. The Orb's purple trail indicates successful absorption of zombie essence. Guide the Orb to the central structure in the Nexus. Interact with the small purple portal that forms, upgrading your Staff of Ice to Ull's Arrow.
