The Steam FPS title, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its sole developer, Dizzie, receiving a three-year prison sentence. This unique circumstance, unlike typical delays stemming from financial or technical issues, leaves the game in early access limbo.
Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive Steam reviews, praised for its nostalgic art style and engaging gameplay. However, all development is now halted until Dizzie's release. While the game's Steam page targets a 2026 full release, this is highly unlikely given the circumstances. The precedent of other games, such as Satisfactory, enduring lengthy early access periods suggests that Fortune's Run might eventually see completion, though its future remains uncertain.
Dizzie revealed the prison sentence in a January 14th Steam update, stating the crime predated Fortune's Run's development and occurred during a period of their life characterized by violence. The original team member departed the project following a surgical complication and disinterest in further game development, leaving Dizzie as the sole developer. Development will cease entirely starting February 2025. Dizzie assures fans the game will be completed upon their release from prison. Players can continue enjoying the existing early access build, and numerous other Steam shooters are available to fill the gap until development resumes.
