Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is set to launch in 2025. This monumental project, crafted by a dedicated team of volunteer developers, represents a AAA-scale modding effort that has consumed years of meticulous work and passion.

In a recent developer update stream, the Skyblivion team reaffirmed their commitment to a 2025 release, expressing optimism about meeting or even surpassing their target date. "We hope with your support to finish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our own estimation," they stated, underscoring the importance of community support in reaching their goal.

Describing Skyblivion as merely a one-to-one remake would not do justice to the extensive enhancements being made. The developers are not only recreating the original game but also overhauling various elements to enhance the experience. This includes ensuring that unique items truly stand out and bolstering the challenge posed by existing bosses, such as the notorious Mannimarco. The team showcased the revamped "A Brush with Death" quest during their livestream, revealing a beautifully reimagined painted world.

Adding an intriguing layer to this project is the buzz around a potential official remake of Oblivion. Earlier this year, alleged details of an Oblivion remake emerged, hinting at significant changes to combat and other aspects. Microsoft, however, declined to comment on these rumors to IGN. Moreover, in 2023, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial inadvertently revealed mentions of an Oblivion remaster. While some projects listed in those documents, like an Indiana Jones game, have since been released, others, including the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters, remain unconfirmed.

The existence of an official Oblivion remake could potentially impact Skyblivion, given Bethesda's history of embracing modding communities across their titles, from older games to the recent Starfield. The hope is that Skyblivion will not face the same challenges as Fallout London did right before its launch. As the 2025 release date approaches, the Skyblivion team continues to work tirelessly, driven by their passion and the support of the gaming community.
