Despite the risk of account bans, players of *Marvel Rivals* are still using mods, even after a crackdown that coincided with the launch of Season 1. Since the game's successful debut in December, the community has embraced mods to craft unique skins, transforming characters like Iron Man into Vegeta from Dragon Ball and Mantis into a goth persona. One particularly popular mod turns Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from Chainsaw Man.
With the introduction of the Fantastic Four and Season 1 last week, *Marvel Rivals* implemented a new mod restriction through asset hash checking. Developer NetEase has made it clear to IGN that using mods violates the game's terms and conditions, which also prohibit cheats, bots, hacks, and other unauthorized third-party software. NetEase reiterated their stance, warning players via IGN: "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."

Despite these warnings, some players remain undaunted. A workaround has emerged and is being shared across the internet. Though it requires more steps than before, it's still accessible for most PC gamers. Modder Prafit, who shared the workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users: “Use at your own risk,” they stated in the mod's description.
"By using this, you are circumventing a system that was designed to prevent modding with the start of the Season 1 patch. No one knows if NetEase will ban you, but they have never issued permanent bans as far as we know."
New mods have emerged following the addition of the Fantastic Four characters. For instance, Ercuallo's mod transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from the manga *One Piece*. According to Nexus Mods, this Luffy mod has been downloaded over 5,000 times within two days of its release.

The question on everyone's mind is whether NetEase will follow through with their threats to ban mod users. The community hasn't found any evidence of bans for mod usage yet, but these workarounds might provoke further action from the developers.
NetEase's motivation to ban mods goes beyond protecting potential revenue from skin sales and addressing intellectual property issues. Mods can disrupt gameplay balance and affect the game's performance. Prafit themselves advised that their temporary workaround should only be used by those with powerful PCs.
