The unexpected collaboration between Konami and FIFA for an esports event is a surprising twist, especially considering their long history of rivalry in the football gaming market. However, this unlikely partnership is now a reality, with FIFAe Virtual World Cup 2024 utilizing Konami's eFootball platform.

In-Game Qualifiers for eFootball Are Now Live!

This year's tournament features two divisions: Console (PS4 and PS5) and Mobile. Eighteen nations—Brazil, Japan, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, England, France, Costa Rica, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Morocco, Netherlands, Poland, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, and Turkey—are vying for spots in the final rounds.

A three-stage in-game qualifier runs from October 10th to 20th. Following this, National Nomination Phases for the 18 participating countries commence from October 28th to November 3rd.

The offline final round will take place late 2024; Konami has yet to announce the precise date. Even if your country isn't among the 18, you can still participate in the qualifiers up to Round 3, earning rewards such as 50 eFootball coins, 30,000 XP, and other bonuses.

The FIFA x Konami eFootball Partnership: A Turn of Events

The union of these two long-time competitors is indeed ironic. To provide some background, EA and FIFA ended their decade-long partnership in 2022 after FIFA demanded a significantly increased licensing fee—a staggering $1 billion every four years, a substantial increase from the previous $150 million. This ultimately led to the dissolution of their partnership. Consequently, EA Sports FC 24 launched in 2023 without the FIFA branding. Now, FIFA has unexpectedly partnered with Konami's eFootball for the FIFAe World Cup 2024.
