Insomniac Games, renowned for their creative endeavors, had a strong desire to develop Resistance 4, a continuation of their beloved first-person shooter series. Unfortunately, despite the team's enthusiasm and a compelling pitch, the project did not receive the green light. This revelation came from Ted Price, the founder and outgoing president of Insomniac Games, during a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games as he prepares to retire after an impressive 30-year tenure at the studio.
When asked about a favorite game concept that never came to fruition, Price shared his thoughts on Resistance 4. He explained, "Yeah, I’ll share one. Resistance 4." He elaborated that the timing and market opportunity simply did not align for the project. Price expressed the team's passion for expanding the Resistance universe, noting, "We were passionate about extending the story further because I do believe that Resistance has set up a really cool alternate history base where anything can happen with the Chimera and where they go and what their origins are."
The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac following their work on the Ratchet and Clank franchise, is set in an alternate history where aliens invade the UK in 1951. The series, which includes three games all released for the PlayStation 3, has garnered a dedicated fanbase. After the Resistance trilogy, Insomniac shifted focus to other successful projects such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and new iterations of Ratchet and Clank.
Ted Price announced his retirement earlier this year, marking the end of over three decades with Insomniac Games. He has appointed Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang as Co-Studio Heads to lead the studio into its next chapter.
Insomniac's most recent release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has just been made available on PC, and the studio is currently working on Marvel’s Wolverine, their next anticipated title.
