How To Defeat Zhang Jiao In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Conquering Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide

One of the initial hurdles in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is the formidable Zhang Jiao, leader of the Yellow Turbans. This guide details strategies for victory.

Phase 1: A Solo Showdown

This phase is a one-on-one duel in a vast wasteland. Zhang Jiao employs sorcery, hurling stones across the arena. His attacks vary with your distance: close range triggers four stones requiring swift evasion; long range unleashes eight stones in pairs, easily dodged by circling him. Maintaining a safe distance when he summons numerous stones is crucial to avoid heavy damage.

While primarily a ranged fighter, Zhang Jiao possesses close-combat moves. Simple combos are parriable, and he uses an area-of-effect (AOE) attack for crowd control. A white glow signals his AOE charge; retreat to avoid damage.

Later, he uses unblockable attacks (red aura), summoning numerous rocks and clones. The best approach is to maintain distance until the attack concludes. A sword is the most effective weapon for this phase, dealing superior damage compared to spears or gauntlets.

Resource Management is key. Depending on skill upgrades, you likely have limited healing opportunities (around four). Meat buns are available near the arena entrance; utilize these during recovery periods.

Phase 2: A Tide of Yellow Turbans

Activating Musou Rage initiates Phase 2, bringing Yellow Turban reinforcements. Fortunately, your army arrives to assist, providing respite. This is an ideal time to replenish health using the meat buns. Zhang Jiao introduces tornados, so be mindful of the wind while engaging his soldiers.

After eliminating sufficient soldiers, Zhang Jiao attempts a Grand Tactic. You must defeat 300 soldiers within minutes to avoid a devastating attack. Simultaneously, he unleashes lightning strikes; observe the ground for approaching rings and evade when they flash. Musou Mode, especially basic Musou, is highly effective for rapidly eliminating large numbers of enemies within the time limit.

Foiling Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice brings him back to the battlefield with Phase 1 tactics. With your army's support, eliminating his remaining health should be straightforward, concluding Chapter 1.

Victory is yours! Dynasty Warriors: Origins is available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
