Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features a host of memorable characters, but none capture the hearts of players quite like Esquie, the game's endearing giant companion who could easily be mistaken for a mascot. Sandfall Interactive, the studio behind the game, has issued a warning regarding unauthorized merchandise sales featuring Esquie, while also hinting at the development of an official Esquie plush.
In a recent post on X/Twitter from the official Expedition 33 account, Sandfall Interactive highlighted the emergence of several "suspicious" websites selling Esquie plushies. "To be clear: any third-party websites selling Esquie plushies are NOT officially licensed," the studio stated. They cautioned that many of these sites use AI-generated artwork for their promotions and advised against purchasing from these sources, as they could be scams.
Balancing the excitement with a note of caution, Sandfall Interactive confirmed that it is actively working on creating official Esquie plushies and aims to release them as soon as possible. "In the meantime, please be patient — and don’t get scammed!" the studio urged its fans.
For those who have experienced the game, the appeal of an Esquie plushie is understandable. If you're yet to embark on Expedition 33, Esquie is introduced as a giant helper in Act 1 of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, serving both as a travel companion and a method of overworld navigation. His character exudes a warmth and charm reminiscent of Big Hero 6's Baymax.
Given Esquie's popularity, it's no surprise that there's a high demand for an official plush version. A quick Google search reveals both unofficial sites and discussions about Esquie plush sellers. Fans eager for the genuine article from Sandfall and Kepler will need to exercise patience. There's no word yet on whether the real-life plush will include a fun feature like being filled with wine.
Last week, Sandfall Interactive rolled out patch 1.2.3 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which included balance adjustments for Maelle's Stendhal ability. Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron recently commended the game, describing its developers as a "shining example of French audacity and creativity."
