Firaxis Games' creative director, Ed Beach, urges even seasoned Civilization players to utilize the tutorial for their first Civilization 7 campaign. In a Steam post, Beach highlights the game's significant departure from previous installments, emphasizing the introduction of a novel Ages system (Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern) and its impact on gameplay. Each Age transition involves selecting a new civilization, choosing retained Legacies, and witnessing world evolution – a unique feature in the series.

Beach justifies the default "Small" map size, explaining that it provides a smoother learning curve for newcomers grappling with the new Diplomacy system and ocean exploration (crucial in the Exploration Age). He recommends using the "Continents Plus" map type for a more gradual introduction to naval gameplay.

The tutorial in Civilization 7 is automatically enabled for first-time players, and Beach strongly advises veterans to keep it active during their initial full campaign. The tutorial offers timely tips and explanations for new mechanics. While experienced players might dismiss the tutorial, Beach stresses its value given the numerous system upgrades and revisions. The game features four Advisors, each providing guided quests, and Beach suggests focusing on one Advisor at a time to avoid information overload.

Even after mastering the core mechanics, Beach recommends switching to the "Only Warnings" setting. This allows Advisors to alert players to potential setbacks, a practice even the Firaxis development team employs.

Firaxis recently revealed Civilization 7's post-launch roadmap during a livestream, noting that Great Britain will be released as DLC. Civilization 7 launches on PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on February 11th, with Deluxe Edition access starting February 6th.
