Farlight Games, fresh off their successful 2024 collaboration with Lilith Games on AFK Journey, has a new contender in the mobile gaming arena: Ace Trainer. Currently in soft launch in South Korea and the US, this game blends several popular genres in an intriguing, if somewhat chaotic, manner.
Ace Trainer is essentially a monster-collecting game, similar to Pokémon, where players gather, train, and level up fantastical creatures. However, Farlight adds a unique twist: these creatures battle hordes of zombies in a tower defense style, a departure from traditional turn-based combat. Adding another layer of complexity, pinball mechanics are incorporated for resource gathering.
The game's eclectic mix of PvP, PvE, tower defense, and pinball elements is ambitious, to say the least. While the combination might seem overwhelming, its soft launch across multiple regions suggests Farlight has high hopes for its success. Whether this "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink" approach will prove sustainable in the long run remains to be seen. However, the popularity of each individual element suggests a potential audience exists.
