Owlcat Games reveals Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy as its next cRPG, building on the success of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
Unveiled at Warhammer Skulls 2025, Dark Heresy casts players as an Inquisitor - the Imperium's relentless heresy hunters. The official description outlines:
Step into the shadows as an Inquisition acolyte in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, a narrative-driven tactical RPG set in the grimdark universe. Against the ominous backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the enigmatic Tyrant Star, you'll command a diverse warband - from battle-hardened Catachan guardsmen to cunning Kroot mercenaries - in a brutal crusade against corruption. The game features complex investigations, turn-based combat, and impactful choices that authentically capture the Inquisition's ruthless nature. Expanding upon Rogue Trader's innovations, Dark Heresy includes fully voiced dialogue and deeper roleplaying systems.
Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is coming to PC (Steam, GOG, Epic) and consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X/S), though no release date has been confirmed.
Simultaneously, Owlcat announced upcoming Rogue Trader content including the Lex Imperialis story expansion (releasing June 24, 2025) and Season Pass 2.
Lex Imperialis introduces the iron-fisted Adeptus Arbites faction through 15 hours of new story. Players gain a new companion - the unyielding Solomorne Anthar - and cybernetic battle familiars that add tactical depth. This DLC expands both gameplay mechanics and narrative possibilities.
Season Pass 2 includes two major expansions and a cosmetic pack:
- Explore Trazyn the Infinite's Necron vault - challenging ancient defenses and uncovering Von Valancius relics
- Navigate the Processional of the Damned - a nightmarish graveyard of derelict voidships
Each expansion offers approximately 15 hours of gameplay featuring new companions, quests integrated into the main story, and fresh mechanics.
