This guide details the Volcano Forge in Stardew Valley 1.6, explaining how to enhance tools and weapons.

Volcano Forge Cinder Shard Node

Obtaining Cinder Shards: All Volcano Forge functions require Cinder Shards. Obtain them by:

  • Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
  • Receiving them as drops from Magma Sprites (50%), Magma Duggies (40%), Magma Sparkers (50%), and False Magma Caps (50%).
  • Producing them in a fishing pond with 7+ Stingrays (7-9% daily chance, yielding 2-5 shards).

Cinder Shards are a resource, not gemstones; they can't be replicated in the Crystalarium.

The Mini-Forge: After achieving Combat Mastery, craft a Mini-Forge:

  • 5 Dragon Teeth
  • 10 Iron Bars
  • 10 Gold Bars
  • 5 Iridium Bars

It functions identically to the Volcano Dungeon forge.

Weapon Forging: Gemstones enhance weapon stats (up to three times per weapon). Costs increase with each forge: 10, 15, then 20 Cinder Shards per forge, plus a gemstone:

Amethyst Amethyst: +1 knockback per level. Aquamarine Aquamarine: +4.6% crit chance per level. Emerald Emerald: +2/+3/+2 speed per level. Jade Jade: +10% crit damage per level. Ruby Ruby: +10% damage per level. Topaz Topaz: +1 defense per level. Diamond Diamond: Three random upgrades (10 Cinder Shards).

Best Upgrades: Emerald & Ruby (DPS) or Topaz & Amethyst (survival).

Unforging Weapons: Place the weapon in the left slot, select the red X. Recovers some Cinder Shards, but not the gemstone.

Infinity Weapons: Upgrade Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer using three Galaxy Souls (20 Cinder Shards each per soul). Retains existing upgrades/enchantments.

Galaxy Souls: Obtain via:

  • Mr. Qi (40 Qi Gems each).
  • Big Slime drops (Dangerous Mines, Qi quests).
  • Island Trader (10 Radioactive Bars, last day of season, after 50 Dangerous Monster kills).
  • Drops from Dangerous Monsters (after 50 kills).

Enchantments: Apply random effects using a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Re-enchant for a different effect.

Weapon Enchantments:

  • Artful: Halved special move cooldown.
  • Bug Killer: Doubles damage against bugs, kills Armored Bugs.
  • Crusader: Doubles damage against undead, permanently kills mummies.
  • Vampiric: 9% chance to regain health on kill.
  • Haymaker: Double fiber/33% hay chance from weeds.

Innate Enchantments: Use a Dragon Tooth for guaranteed enchantments (one from each set):

Set 1: Slime Slayer, +Crit Power, +Attack, +Speed. Set 2 (optional): Slime Gatherer, +Defense, -Weight.
