Genshin Impact's Wriothesley Rumored for Version 5.4 Rerun After Year-Long Wait
A recent leak suggests Wriothesley, the Cryo Catalyst character, will finally receive his first rerun in Genshin Impact Version 5.4, over a year after his initial release in Version 4.1. This extended wait highlights the ongoing challenge Genshin Impact faces in balancing its ever-expanding roster of over 90 playable characters with the limited number of rerun slots available on Event Banners.
The game's current system, even with the introduction of the Chronicled Banner (intended to alleviate rerun scarcity), struggles to provide fair and timely reruns for all limited 5-star characters. The example of Shenhe, who waited over 600 days for a rerun, underscores this issue. Until the developers implement triple banners, extended wait times between character reruns are likely to persist.
Wriothesley's case is particularly noteworthy. His unique Cryo hypercarry capabilities and strong performance in Burnmelt teams have made him highly sought after, yet inaccessible since November 8, 2023. The leak, originating from Flying Flame, suggests his return in Version 5.4. However, it's crucial to approach this information cautiously, as Flying Flame's track record regarding Natlan leaks has been inconsistent.
Despite this uncertainty, the recent Spiral Abyss buff in Genshin Impact does favorably impact Wriothesley's gameplay, lending some credence to the rumor. Version 5.4 is also anticipated to introduce Mizuki, potentially Inazuma's first Standard Banner character. If both Mizuki and Wriothesley are featured on the Event Banners, the remaining slot(s) might include either Furina or Venti, as they are the only Archons yet to receive sequential reruns. Version 5.4's projected launch date is February 12, 2025.
