Sony has made the difficult decision to sunset its PlayStation Stars loyalty program after less than three years in operation.
Starting today, the rewards initiative has closed its doors to new members. Current participants who choose to cancel their membership won't be able to rejoin later, and any accumulated points will vanish permanently upon cancellation.
Existing members have until July 23, 2025 to continue earning points, with a final deadline of November 3, 2026 to redeem any remaining balance.
Despite the program's conclusion, Sony confirms that Digital Collectibles from PlayStation Stars will remain viewable, allowing fans to cherish quirky digital memorabilia like the Jim Ryan bobblehead for the time being.
"Our experience running this program has provided valuable insights into player preferences and engagement patterns," explained Grace Chen, PlayStation's VP of Network Advertising, Loyalty and Licensed Merchandise. "As industry trends evolve, we're redirecting our efforts while preserving the lessons learned from PlayStation Stars."
The company hasn't revealed any specifics about potential replacements or disclosed detailed findings from the program's operation.

Originally launched in July 2022, PlayStation Stars aimed to reward PlayStation 5 users with redeemable points for PlayStation Store purchases and engagement with surveys, games, or platform features.
The program was positioned as Sony's answer to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards - though both offerings gradually reduced their profitability for users over time.
After facing operational issues last summer that took the service offline for a month, Sony implemented several adjustments last October. These included halving the point expiration window from 24 to 12 months and excluding PlayStation Plus subscriptions from point eligibility. Now, the complete discontinuation marks the final chapter for the initiative.
