NieR: Automata Best Places to Find Beast Hide

NieR: Automata features a diverse arsenal across weapon types for players to experiment with across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon can be upgraded several times, extending the viability of your favorites and allowing most arms to remain useful throughout the entire journey if desired.

Weapon upgrades are available at any time in the Resistance Camp, though they demand specific resources depending on the weapon. One crafting material players don’t acquire naturally but will need in good supply is Beast Hide—here’s how to obtain and farm it efficiently.

How To Obtain Beast Hide in NieR: Automata

Beast Hide may drop from wildlife such as moose and boar when defeated. These creatures spawn randomly in certain map regions and typically avoid both the player and nearby machines. Wildlife is easily spotted on the mini-map thanks to their white icons, contrasting with the black icons of machines. Farming them isn’t straightforward, as animals don’t appear as frequently as machines, and knowing their locations is key.

Moose and boar only appear in the ruined city and forest areas. Depending on your level relative to the animal, they may flee or retaliate when attacked. If an animal is significantly higher level, it might turn aggressive simply if you approach too closely. Wildlife also has substantial health, making engagements with higher-level creatures—or those near your level early on—quite challenging.

Using Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, making them easier to eliminate.

Since animals don’t respawn regularly as part of the main storyline, you’ll need to hunt them during exploration and search for new spawns. Wildlife and machines follow similar respawn rules:

  • Fast traveling respawns all enemies and animals.
  • Moving far enough away causes enemies and wildlife in prior zones to reappear.
  • Triggering story events can respawn nearby enemies and animals.

Regardless of your progress, there’s no effortless method to farm Beast Hide. Simply take down every animal you come across while traversing forests and ruined urban areas, and you’ll generally gather what you need. Beast Hide drops at a reasonably high rate, so unless you’re upgrading more weapons than you can equip at once, you’ll rarely need large quantities at one time.
