Fallout 76 Season 20 Out Now

Unleash the Ghoul Within

Fallout 76’s latest update allows players to explore Appalachia as a Ghoul. On March 18, Bethesda announced that Season 20, "The Ghoul Within," is now live, introducing a variety of ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options for players' C.A.M.P.s.

In this update, players can transform into Ghouls through a process called Ghoulification, accessible via the "Leap of Faith" questline. This questline leads players to a new area in the Savage Divide, where they encounter new characters aiding in their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to unique abilities like Glow and Feral, along with 30 new Ghoul-exclusive Perks.

The Feral ability replaces the traditional hunger and thirst mechanics, offering different boosts based on the Feral meter's level. At 0%, players experience drastic changes: "+150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

The Glow ability allows players to consume radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations, and even causing the player to emit a glow. This ability boosts maximum health, heals damage, and enhances Ghoul-exclusive Perks, or "Gherks." There are 28 Perks available, plus two new legendary perks for Ghouls. Note that Ghouls cannot use Perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance.

A Day In The Life of A Ghoul

Navigating the radiation-saturated wasteland as a Ghoul becomes easier with the new Gherks and abilities. However, some factions, like the Brotherhood of Steel, may react negatively to Ghouls, potentially limiting access to certain questlines.

Players can circumvent these restrictions with help from Jaye, a new NPC who provides disguises to interact with blocked content. If the Ghoul lifestyle doesn't suit, players can revert to human form via the Character Screen, though this is a one-way decision. Re-transformation to a Ghoul costs 1000 Atoms on the Character Screen.

Originally launched in November 2018, Fallout 76 faced initial challenges due to bugs and issues. However, with ongoing updates, including the current Season 20, the game now boasts a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam, with 76% positive reviews. Fallout 76 is playable on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
