Written by Aubrey Sitterson (No One Left to Fight) and illustrated by Jed Dougherty (Savage Hearts), with covers by Dougherty and Fico Ossio, Free Planet tells the story of humanity's first truly free planet and the revolutionary heroes tasked with protecting its unique energy source from hostile alien forces. The series explores the complexities of freedom and the sacrifices it demands.

Image's official synopsis: "The first completely free planet in human history has won its independence. Now, a group of revolutionary heroes must defend the planet’s unique energy source from a pair of hostile intergalactic powers while determining what complete freedom actually entails."

Sitterson describes Free Planet as "the shape of comics to come," aiming for a "truly literary comic" with rich visual complexity. Dougherty notes a shift towards a more serious tone in his art style, reflecting the story's themes of revolution, rebuilding, and vengeance.
