In the upcoming *DOOM: The Dark Ages*, fans will encounter a formidable new adversary, Agadon the Hunter, who is set to replace the Marauder. Agadon isn't just an upgraded version of the Marauder; he's a completely unique enemy designed to challenge players in unprecedented ways. Drawing inspiration from various bosses, Agadon possesses the ability to dodge, evade attacks, and deflect projectiles launched by the Doom Slayer. Players will face a variety of combo attacks from this boss, necessitating the use of a sawtooth shield—a mechanic reminiscent of *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, which notably influenced the game's developers. The battle against Agadon is designed to be the ultimate test of all the skills players have honed throughout their journey, serving as a sort of final exam.
The developers have chosen to retain the concept of a challenging boss similar to the Marauder, believing that players are eager for an even greater challenge. However, they recognize that the previous issues weren't with the difficulty mechanics themselves but with how they were introduced and explained. Many of the mechanics needed to defeat the Marauder were not introduced earlier in the campaign, leading to a jarring shift in gameplay and dissatisfaction among some players. To mitigate this, the developers are focusing on a smoother integration of mechanics and better preparation for players.
